A message from the Headteacher...
Welcome to the new Boulevard Primary Partnership website. This will provide access to both the Downs Barn School and Southwood School websites, and keep you informed about developments at our schools.
Downs Barn and Southwood formed the original ‘soft’ federation in September 2006. It was felt that closer collaboration between the schools would improve the learning of our pupils, make transition that much easier and help to keep us economically viable. At the same time both schools could retain their distinctive natures and cultures and provide choice for parents who prefer the special feel of an infant and junior school.
Originally the pupils, parents, headteacher and a joint governing body committee provided the link between the schools. We have significantly moved on from there with the formation of a ‘hard‘ federation in January 2009. In effect under one governing body and one headteacher we have one school on two sites but with the added advantage that both schools have been able to maintain their own character.
There is a high level of collaboration between both staffs who are not only familiar with their partner school but share a role in both schools. Our pupils are happy and achieve well.
The Boulevard Primary Partnership already works very closely with the local community and in the coming years would like to develop this even further.
