Southwood School

Our school is supported and challenged by a Governing Board, which works with the Executive Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team.Our Governors are an elected committee, consisting of staff, parents and community/local authority representatives.

The Governing Board has a responsibility to work with the school as a critical friend and to hold the school to account for the standards and quality of education it achieves.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNING BODY

We are working closely with the staff of the school. We aspire to be the best. It is only by working as a team that we can achieve this. We must thank you for your recent support and the very good turn out at the parental consultations.

Both schools are in a much better position than they were even a year ago. There has been a significant improvement over the past three years in both attainment and progress. At present Southwood is in line with national expectations. Key Stage 1 is above in reading and just below in writing and maths with a good forecast for this year’s outcomes. Foundation has maintained the good standards of recent years. We cannot however rest on our laurels. We need to ensure our attendance is at least as good as the national average and despite good improvements that more of our pupils achieve the higher levels. We will not rest until all teaching is outstanding (it is generally good now).We do well in comparison to similar schools but want to do even better still.

We are moving in the right direction. We expect inspections in both schools this year. Under the new framework it will be much harder to achieve a good but that is our aim and we can succeed with your support.
